Leesa is one of the leading online mattress manufacturers, having gained popularity for its all-foam namesake mattress and later its hybrid mattress. In addition to mattresses Leesa also makes pillows, frames, and other bedding products. Recently, Leesa announced the release of the new Leesa Legend mattress, a hybrid that features a blend of memory foam and two coil layers.
This latest luxury offering from Leesa comes at a higher price point, but it offers a welcome change for heavier individuals or anyone who needs more support from their mattress. As always, the company has been ethical in the construction of this mattress, using organic and recycled materials where possible. Moreover, to celebrate the launch of the Legend, Leesa will donate one mattress to charity for every Legend mattress purchased. Leesa claims this is the first dual-coil mattress of its kind to be shipped as a bed-in-a-box.
In this comprehensive Leesa Legend review, we’ll discuss pricing, construction, and sleep experience to help you get a feel for the mattress as you narrow down your choices.

Mattress firmness is largely a matter of personal preference and will be affected by your body type and sleeping style, among other factors. Some people like their mattress hard as a plank, while others like it feathery-soft. Most people fall in the middle and prefer a medium-firm mattress. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the firmest, “medium-firm” would fall around a 6.5.
The Leesa Legend is a little softer than the Leesa hybrid mattress and rates approximately a 6 out of 10 on the subjective firmness scale. The comfort layers are quite plush, but there are only 2 inches of foam before you start getting to the pocket springs. This means the feel of this mattress will vary depending on how much pressure you exert on the bed.
Leesa operates “Dream Galleries” where you can try out the Leesa mattresses. Leesa mattresses are also available in select West Elm and Pottery Barn stores. And, of course, Leesa mattresses can be purchased online through the Leesa website, as well as websites like Amazon (the Leesa Legend is not yet available on Amazon but we expect it to be available soon). The Leesa Legend mattress ships to all 50 U.S. states. Leesa’s other mattresses ship to Canada so this model will likely be available in Canada soon.
The Leesa Legend is a hybrid mattress with memory foam and two layers of coils. While the mattress combines some features from Leesa’s other mattresses, elements that are exclusive to the Legend include the cover and the Relief + Stability layer. The Leesa Legend is 12 inches tall and has six layers in total, not including the cover.
The hypoallergenic cover contains organic cotton and merino wool, and it’s stitched together with recycled polyester yarn from water bottles (about 60 water bottles in a queen size mattress). Both materials are highly breathable and merino wool is naturally antibacterial and moisture-wicking.
The first comfort layer is made with 1 inch of responsive foam that has been perforated with tiny holes to enhance breathability. This foam contours to the body while offering some resilience, and helps regulate temperature. Under this is a 1-inch layer of memory foam for further contouring and relief of pressure points.
Below the memory foam is Leesa’s special Relief and Stability layer. This layer is unique in that it blends micro-pocket springs and foam into one layer. The springs provide strategic pressure relief for sensitive areas like the hips and shoulders, and the foam helps minimize motion transfer. This layer is 1.5 inches thick.
At the base of the mattress we have a 6-inch thick support core, which is made with more than a thousand 15-gauge, active-response pocket springs. This layer ensures sturdy edge support, superior motion isolation, and provides a durable base for the mattress. The springs are made of 95% recycled materials, including plastic and steel. Finally, the base of the mattress has another inch of support foam.
The Leesa Legend mattress ships for free to all 50 states via UPS Ground. A mandatory Mattress Recycling Fee is charged in California, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Each mattress is made to order and shipped compressed as a bed-in-a-box. Mattresses are shipped within 3-6 business days of assembly and compression. For the Leesa Legend mattress, Leesa throws in free in-home delivery for anyone who wants it. This means the company will send someone to help set up your new mattress and take away your old mattress and box spring. It can take another 7 business days to schedule a time for in-home delivery after the mattress arrives with the local delivery partner.
If you prefer to set up the mattress yourself, this is easy as well. Carry the mattress box close to where you want to set it up and place it on its side to unbox it. Carefully remove the plastic layers one at a time and let the mattress expand. It should expand fully in about an hour but may take a few days to reach its maximum firmness.
Leesa offers White Glove delivery and Old Mattress removal for free with every purchase of a Leesa Legend, provided you want them. White-Glove delivery and Old Mattress removal are not currently available for Alaska and Hawaii.
The Leesa Legend comes with a 100-night sleep trial, although the company recommends sleeping on the mattress for a full month before making your decision so your body has time to adjust to the feel of it. If you decide you don’t want the mattress before the 100 nights are up, just contact Leesa to arrange a return. This also applies for mattresses purchased in West Elm or Pottery Barn stores – see here for details. Leesa will send someone to pick up the mattress from you and find a local charity to donate it to (or a recycling plant, if there are no charities). You will receive a full refund minus a $49 bed adoption fee ($100 in Alaska and Hawaii). Damaged or soiled mattresses are not eligible for return.
Leesa’s 10-year limited warranty guarantees the mattress against defects including visible indentations greater than 1 inch and physical craftsmanship flaws that damage the memory foam. Defective mattresses that qualify for the warranty will be replaced or refunded. The warranty will be void if the mattress has been abused, damaged, or used with an improper foundation. Leesa Legend Mattress Performance
Traditional innerspring mattresses are not known for their motion isolation – in mattresses where all the coils are attached together, movement on one side of the bed can make a significant disruption on the other side of the bed. Individually-wrapped coils help to limit motion transfer beyond adjacent coils when pressure is applied. The Leesa Legend is designed to reduce motion transfer with double layers of individually wrapped coils in its support core and one-inch of memory foam in its upper comfort layer. These features perform well and the Leesa Legend provides a superior level of motion isolation compared with other hybrids.
The support coils in this Leesa mattress are designed to provide edge-to-edge support. While the top layers are quite plush and may compress under pressure, the mattress does have several layers of polyfoam that should help prevent the mattress from sagging too much at the edges.
Coil mattresses are well-regarded for their temperature regulation abilities, since the coils leave plenty of room for air to circulate between them. The Leesa Legend has not one but two layers of coils, so you won’t be surprised to hear that it performs quite well on temperature regulation. The top layer of foam is also perforated for better breathability, and the cover is made of breathable materials including cotton and moisture-wicking merino wool. Overall, most sleepers should find that this mattress doesn’t sleep hot.
Like most foam mattresses, the Leesa Legend may emit some faint off-gassing odors when it is first unpacked. This is perfectly normal and the odors are not harmful. Just let it air out in a well-ventilated room and the smell should go away within a few days. Leesa uses CertiPUR-US® ® certified foams in the Legend hybrid mattress, so you can rest assured they are free of harmful substances such as ozone depleters, formaldehyde, and heavy metals.
The two layers of coils in the Leesa Legend work together to form a cradle and provide just the right amount of resistance to keep your spine in line. Heavier individuals are usually advised to choose a mattress with coils, as these provide more support than most all-foam mattresses.
While the Leesa Legend does have a layer of memory foam, this is hidden underneath a layer of resilient perforated foam. Therefore, although the mattress will cradle the body and reduce most pressure points, you won’t get the “hug” feeling typical of memory foam mattresses. In fact, part of the contouring will come from the top layer of micro-coils, which will adapt to fit the curves of your body.
Leesa has subjected the Legend mattress to extensive testing and confidently extends its ten-year warranty to cover this new model. Indeed, the Legend's high-quality pocketed coil system ensures more longevity than an all-foam bed or a hybrid or innerspring that lacks pocketed coils.
The best mattresses for sex will be resilient enough to push back a little against you, making it easier to move around on top of the mattress. This is a desirable attribute for combination sleepers, too, who don’t want to feel like they’re stuck in quicksand every time they try to shift position.
The aerated foam in the top layer of the Leesa Legend is highly responsive, and with two layers of coils to provide even more bounce, this is a great mattress for sex.
A common concern in mattresses with coils is the potential for noise. However, because they are individually wrapped and therefore muffled, pocketed coils tend to produce less noise than traditional innersprings. If you’re a very, very sensitive sleeper then the Leesa Legend might not be for you, but most people shouldn’t have any problem with the noise.
How Do Customers Rate the Leesa Legend Mattress?
What Type of Sleeper Is Well Suited to a Leesa Legend Mattress?
Side Sleepers: In many ways the Leesa Legend is the perfect mattress for side sleepers. The plush comfort layers – especially the memory foam – will conform to the curves of your body, allowing the heavier parts like the hips and shoulders to sink in just enough to keep your spine at a natural angle while alleviating pressure points. The first layer of foam/micro-pocket springs is designed to provide targeted relief of pressure points in the hips and shoulders, and the second layer of coils will provide further support for the spinal structure. Lightweight side sleepers who don’t sink far enough into the mattress to benefit from these layers may find the mattress too firm.
Back Sleepers: Back sleepers will also benefit from the micro-coil/foam layer, which will help provide lumbar support. While some heavier back sleepers may find the comfort layers a little too plush, most people will appreciate the enhanced support from two layers of coils.
Stomach Sleepers: The comfort layers of the Leesa Legend are on the softer side and stomach sleepers may find their hips sink in too far, which can cause pain in the lower back. Lighter individuals will probably do ok on this mattress but heavier stomach sleepers may be better off with the Leesa Hybrid mattress, which is slightly firmer.

The Leesa Legend is a well-built mattress with plenty to recommend it. However, while the price is on par with other luxury mattresses, the Leesa Legend is more expensive than the typical bed-in-a-box, and certainly more expensive than the flagship all-foam model.
On the bright side, you can be sure your money is going to a good cause. In addition to using recycled materials, Leesa plants trees, donates mattresses, and offers paid days off so workers can do volunteer work.
All in all, the Leesa Legend is an attractive option for individuals who need more support from a mattress. This is especially true for heavier side sleepers who may have trouble finding a mattress that is both plush and supportive enough.
The Leesa Legend mattress has decent motion isolation, solid edge support, and outstanding temperature regulation. It’s a good pick for couples, especially since it’s resilient enough to be conducive to sex. If you value these features and your budget permits it, the Leesa Legend may be the perfect mattress for you.
