The GhostBed Flex is a new hybrid mattress model offered by GhostBed, a company that has been in the online mattress industry since 2015. This mattress builds on the success of the GhostBed Classic and provides customers with a bed that makes the most of multiple distinct materials in its construction.
The big change in the GhostBed Flex is the inclusion of the 8.5” support core made of individually-wrapped innerspring coils. The prior mattresses from GhostBed, including the GhostBed Luxe, were all-foam models, so the Flex provides a fresh look that especially suits customers who seek out the stability and bounce that comes from coils.
The comfort system is composed of fiber fill and two layers of gel-infused memory foam. These materials give the mattress notable contouring and support. They create a comfortable feel with a firmness of Medium Firm -- 5.5 to 6 on the firmness scale -- that fits the preferences of most sleepers.
The GhostBed Flex has a competitive price point for a hybrid and comes with a 101-night sleep trial and a 25-year warranty. For customers who want the pressure relief of memory foam and the benefits of an innerspring support core, it is worthy of serious consideration.

The GhostBed Flex has six interior layers that are covered by a quilted cover with a cooling textile incorporated into it. The interior layers are constructed in the following arrangement:
- The top layer is 1” of fiber fill that is woven into the cover.
- The second layer is 1” of gel-infused memory foam.
- The third layer is another 1” of gel-infused memory foam.
- The fourth layer is 1” of a transition polyfoam.
- The fifth layer is 8.5” of individually-wrapped innerspring coils with reinforcement around the perimeter for edge support.
- The sixth layer is 1” of high-density support polyfoam.
GhostBed includes free shipping with each purchase for customers in the 48 contiguous United States. The mattress ships within one day and normally arrives within 2-4 business days after being shipped.
The mattress is delivered to your home as a bed-in-a-box, which means that it is rolled, compressed, and encased in plastic. When you take it out of the packaging, it expands to reach its complete dimensions. It may take up to a day to fully decompress, but you can sleep on it right away.
For customers in Hawaii and Alaska, shipping is available but comes with a freight charge of $600.
GhostBed does not offer any white-glove delivery or installation service nor haul-away of an old mattress.
GhostBed does offer financing services and accepts numerous forms of online payment, including Bitcoin.
The GhostBed Flex comes with a 101-night sleep trial. The trial begins on the day that your mattress is shipped, and you must keep the mattress for 30 nights as a break-in period before you can initiate a return.
After 30 nights, if you are not satisfied with the mattress, you can return it for a full refund. GhostBed does not charge any return shipping or handling charges if you make a return and attempts to work with you to make sure that the returned mattress is donated to a good cause.
The GhostBed Flex comes with a 25-year warranty. This warranty covers defects in the craftsmanship or in the materials, but it does not cover normal degradation (wear-and-tear).
During the first 10 years of the warranty, GhostBed will repair or replace the mattress if it has any defects. During years 11 through 25, GhostBed will repair a defective mattress or will replace it at a prorated cost. This cost gets higher each additional year that you own the mattress.
During the entire 25 years of the warranty, the customer is responsible for any handling or transportation costs that are related to a warranty claim.
GhostBed Flex Mattress Performance
The GhostBed Flex features notable motion isolation. The 1” of fiber fill and the 2” of memory foam in the comfort system provide an effective barrier against movement being felt across the mattress. This motion isolation prevents sleep disturbances that can occur from another person or a pet moving on the mattress during the night, and for this reason, the GhostBed Flex can work well for couples and pet owners.
The GhostBed Flex has good to very good edge support. A robust layer of innerspring coils that measures 8.5” thick gives the mattress a strong base that helps hedge against excessive sinking at the edge. These coils feature a reinforcement system around the perimeter that helps keep the foams from “bottoming out” when pressure is applied. While you’ll still notice some compression around the edge, the GhostBed Flex remains stable across the surface of the bed.
Most people find that the GhostBed Flex stays cool and has few issues with heat buildup. The cover of the mattress has a specialty material woven into it that promotes breathability and keeps heat from collecting around your body. Even though the comfort system has memory foam, which can retain heat, these foams are gel-infused to keep that to a minimum. Air moves easily through the innerspring coils to give cooling ventilation to the largest component of the mattress.
When the GhostBed Flex is first removed from its packaging, some smell can be expected, but this is less noticeable than with many other bed-in-a-box mattresses. Any smell will fade away within a few hours and poses no threats to your health.
It is important to have a mattress that can keep your spine aligned, and the GhostBed Flex does an above-average job of offering support. Its individually-wrapped coils create a base that adds responsiveness. This responsiveness is complemented by the memory foam layers that are able to relieve pressure where your body most needs it.
The GhostBed Flex has good conforming properties. Its 2” of memory foam can compress directly in response to where your weight is applied, and this gives the bed a feeling of a hug. The soft polyfoam transition layer and responsive pocketed coils boost the overall conforming level of the mattress.
The GhostBed Flex is a newer model offered by GhostBed, and because of this, there are no customer reports from people who have been able to spend years using this bed. Based on early reports and the way the mattress is constructed, especially with its thick innerspring layer, a lifespan of at least 6 years is expected for this mattress.
Though some customers find that memory foam can impede motion and sex, the GhostBed Flex counteracts this with the bounce offered from the innerspring coils. Though this may not be the ideal mattress for sex, few customers will find that it poses barriers to intimate activities.
The GhostBed Flex is quiet and will pose virtually no noise issues for most customers. The compression of the innerspring coils can cause some increase in noise relative to an all-foam bed, but it is rare that these noises would be frequent or loud enough to be distracting or bothersome.

What Type of Sleeper is Suited to the GhostBed Flex?
There are many subjective factors, like a person’s comfort preference, that play a part in determining their optimal mattress. This makes it impossible to say that one mattress will always be the best fit for any person, but we can draw on experience to identify the sleepers who are most likely to find comfort and support from a mattress. Primary sleeping position and body weight are central factors that can influence this calculation.
Side Sleepers: side sleepers have their main pressure points at the shoulders and hips, so they need a mattress that can cushion those areas and prevent them from experiencing painful impact or misalignment of the spine. The memory foam in the GhostBed Flex delivers the responsiveness needed to cushion side sleepers of any body weight. The only caveat is that some people over 230 pounds may find that the 2” of memory foam is not thick enough to provide complete cushioning.
Back Sleepers: people who sleep on their back tend to put the most pressure on their mattress at and around their belly. This part of the body carries more weight and needs support; if a mattress is too soft, it will sink the body into a U shape that can lead to back pain. At the same time, if a mattress is too firm, excessive impact in the lumbar area can be uncomfortable. The GhostBed Flex is a great blend of contouring and firmness for back sleepers, especially those under 230 pounds.
Stomach Sleepers: like with back sleepers, people who sleep on their stomach need a mix of conforming and firmness. However, these sleepers usually need an even firmer surface so that they don’t feel as though they are being swallowed or suffocating by the bed. The GhostBed Flex works very well for stomach sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds and is viable for those under 230, but it is likely not quite firm enough for those over 230 pounds.
|Under 130 lbs||130-230 lbs||Above 230 lbs|
|Side Sleepers||Very good||Very good||Good|
|Back Sleepers||Excellent||Very good||Good|
With the success of the Original GhostBed and the GhostBed Luxe, GhostBed had already firmly established its place as a manufacturer of quality all-foam beds. With the GhostBed Flex, the company has stepped into the market for hybrids with an offering that can compete based on its price and its features.
The GhostBed Flex does not skimp on its innerspring layer. The coils are 8.5” thick, adding height to the bed and fortifying the bounce and stability that they bring to the mattress as a whole. The coils are individually-wrapped so that each coil has more independent motion, boosting responsiveness and decreasing motion transfer. The coils are reinforced around the exterior, adding edge support that comes in handy when the foams in the upper layers start to compress.
In the comfort layer, customers can count on the contouring properties of memory foam to keep them supported. The hug of memory foam reflects its proportional compression. It is this feature that allows these layers to give more cushion to heavier parts of the body and to sharper pressure points. In so doing, the spine can stay better aligned, reducing the chances of waking up with back pain.
The memory foam comfort layers, in combination with the fiber fill stitched into the cover, provide an inviting sleeping surface with a Medium Firm feel. These materials do an excellent job of isolating motion and keeping the mattress quiet even when you or a partner move on it during the night. Gel-infused memory foam and specialty materials in the cover work against heat retention and enhance breathability.
With its firmness and conforming characteristics, the GhostBed Flex can work well for sleepers in any position. In general, it offers the most support and comfort to sleepers who weigh under 230 pounds.
GhostBed has worked to assure quality in the materials and construction of the Flex and backs the mattress with a 101-night sleep trial (with a 30-night break-in requirement) and a 25-year warranty. Other models from GhostBed have been recognized for their performance in durability testing, and there is clear reason to believe that this newest model, the GhostBed Flex, will deliver years of great sleep.
