The Freya mattress is a relatively new hybrid model by Brooklyn Bedding. Brooklyn Bedding started producing bed-in-a-box mattresses in 2008. Unlike many mattress brands on the market, the family-owned company manufactures its own beds.
Brooklyn Bedding offers primarily hybrid mattresses, including the Brooklyn Signature, the Brooklyn Aurora, the Spartan, the Bloom Hybrid, and the Brooklyn Bowery Hybrid.
The Freya mattress uses a hybrid design paired with advanced technology to promote a cooler night’s sleep. The top layer of the mattress uses Visco-Elastic Memory Foam. The second layer is composed of CopperGel Energex foam. Both these layers feature unique technology designed to provide cooling and enhance airflow. The base of the mattress uses individually-wrapped Quantum Edge coils and high-density foam.
The Freya mattress has one firmness option, which can be considered medium. Read our in-depth review of the Freya mattress to learn about pricing, construction, performance, customer reviews, and more.

However, it may be slightly too soft for sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds, and it may be slightly too firm for sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds.
The Freya mattress ships within the United States and Canada. You can purchase the Freya mattress through the brand’s website. While Brooklyn Bedding also sells mattresses on Amazon, the Freya is not available through Amazon at this time. Mattresses by Brooklyn Bedding are also featured in showrooms across the United States.
The Freya mattress is composed of five layers. The top layer of the mattress uses 2 inches of Visco-Elastic Memory Foam infused with TitanCool to draw heat away from the body. The second layer is composed of 1.5 inches of CopperGel Energex foam, which is also infused with TitanCool. The next layer is 1 inch of transition foam. The innerspring layer is 8 inches of individually-wrapped Quantum Edge coils, with up to 1,189 total coils. Finally, the mattress features a 1-inch foam base.

It usually takes 1-3 business days to process an order and 3-5 business days to ship, so customers can expect to receive their Freya mattress 4-8 business days after placing the order.
The Freya mattress ships compressed. It is wrapped in plastic within a box. The customer is responsible for unboxing and setting up the mattress.
Brooklyn Bedding does not offer white glove delivery for the Freya mattress at this time. Additionally, old mattress removal is not currently available, so the customer is solely responsible for recycling or disposing of their old mattress.
The Freya mattress comes with a 120-night sleep trial. Before you can return the mattress, you must try it for at least 30 nights to allow time to adjust. If you wish to return your mattress after 30 nights and before 120 nights, contact Brooklyn Bedding to receive a refund and arrange to donate the mattress.
Brooklyn Bedding offers a 10-year warranty for all its mattresses purchased from a Brooklyn Bedding store or through its website. The warranty covers defects and body impressions that are 1 inch or deeper. The warranty requires that the mattress must have been used on a foundation with solid support, and the mattress must be free from stains, burns, and other damage.
Freya Mattress Performance
The Freya mattress’s thick comfort system provides better motion isolation than many hybrid mattresses. The top layer of the mattress is 2 inches thick, the second layer is 1.5 inches thick, and the transition layer is 1 inch thick. All of these layers absorb motion so it isn’t felt across the surface of the bed. Additionally, the individually-wrapped coils can prevent motion from transferring across the support layer. While the Freya mattress provides very good motion isolation compared to other hybrid mattresses, it is not able to completely eliminate motion transfer like some all-foam mattresses.
If you sit or sleep near the perimeter of the bed, edge support can be very important. Without a reinforced edge, the foam in a mattress may compress, creating a feeling of instability when you approach the edge. Like many other hybrid mattresses, the Freya mattress provides edge support through its innerspring layer. The Freya mattress uses individually-wrapped Quantum Edge coils. The coils around the edge of the bed are narrower in diameter, which helps prevent sinkage.
While memory foam has a reputation for retaining heat, the Freya mattress uses new technology to dissipate heat. The mattress cover and top two foam layers of the mattress are infused with TitanCool, which is designed to wick heat away from the body. Additionally, the top foam layer uses in-core ventilation for improved breathability. The innerspring layer also allows for greater airflow than most all-foam mattresses. Because of these features, the Freya mattress should sleep cooler than many other mattresses on the market.
Mattresses that use foam often have a slight odor when first unboxed. This odor is not harmful and should dissipate quickly. Like most other mattresses that use foam, the Freya mattress may initially have a slight odor. The smell should dissipate quickly if you leave the mattress in a well-ventilated space.
Support refers to how well a mattress promotes spinal alignment. The Freya mattress’s top layers of foam should allow most sleepers to sink in enough to enjoy good contouring.
The Freya mattress’s innerspring layer uses 8 inches of individually-wrapped Quantum Edge coils, which should provide good support for most sleepers. However, the Freya mattress may not be firm enough to provide ideal support for sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds.
The Freya mattress uses three layers of foam, which should offer very good conforming for a wide variety of sleepers and sleep positions.
The top layer of the mattress uses Visco-Elastic Memory Foam, while the second layer is composed of CopperGel Energex foam. Both of these layers can conform to the body to relieve pressure points. A layer of transition foam provides deep compression support.
Additionally, the innerspring layer uses individually wrapped coils, which can move independently of each other to provide even greater conforming.
The Freya mattress is still new to the market, so there is no long-term data to suggest how long the mattress is likely to last. However, given the construction and materials, buyers can expect the Freya mattress to last as long or longer than other hybrid mattresses. If the Freya mattress does not hold up as expected, the 10-year warranty provides an additional layer of protection.
Because memory foam contours to the body, moving on the surface of a memory foam bed may be more challenging. Like other mattresses that use memory foam comfort layers, the conforming properties of the Freya mattress may make movement more challenging. However, the 8-inch innerspring layer provides extra bounce that may be beneficial for sex.
Mattresses may produce noise when you roll over or switch positions during the night. While the Freya mattress isn’t as silent as some memory foam mattresses, it is quiet. The foam comfort layers can absorb motion without making noise. Since the innerspring layer uses individually-wrapped coils, it can also limit the transfer of motion between coils and prevent unnecessary sounds.
How Do Customers Rate the Freya Mattress?

What Type of Sleeper Is Well Suited to a Freya Mattress?
Side Sleepers: Side sleepers usually benefit from good contouring that provides pressure point relief. The Freya mattress uses foam comfort layers that can provide strong contouring and allow the right parts of the body to sink in. The layer of transition foam and the 8-inch innerspring layer can provide additional contouring for side sleepers while preventing them from sinking in too deeply.
Back Sleepers: Back sleepers often benefit from an even surface that doesn’t sag. The Freya mattress’s comfort layers should allow back sleepers to sink in enough to be comfortable and reduce pressure points. The 8-inch innerspring layer features individually-wrapped coils that should offer stability and responsiveness for back sleepers while preventing excessive sinking.
Stomach Sleepers: Since a lot of people carry extra weight around their midsections, many stomach sleepers benefit from a mattress that prevents the midsection from sinking in too deeply. The Freya mattress’s 8-inch innerspring layer can provide deep compression support that allows the right areas to sink in. However, the Freya mattress may be too soft for stomach sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds.

The Freya mattress’s main claim to fame is its use of cooling technology. The mattress uses TitanCool in the top two layers of foam and in the mattress cover to wick heat away from the body. Additionally, the top foam layer uses in-core ventilation for improved breathability. Since the Freya is a hybrid mattress, the innerspring layer also provides more breathability than most all-foam bases.
The Freya mattress offers the contouring and motion isolation associated with a memory foam mattress. However, unlike many memory foam mattresses, it doesn’t sleep hot. This makes the Freya mattress an excellent choice for sleepers who want to enjoy the benefits of memory foam without the accompanying heat retention.
While the Freya mattress comes in at a higher price point than many other hybrid mattresses, frequent promotions can make it more affordable.
The Freya mattress scores well in all of our performance categories. Here’s how we rate the Freya mattress on a scale of 1 (worst) to 10 (best):
