Construction
Brentwood Home’s product line can be divided into two categories: foam and hybrid. There are two foam models and four hybrids.
Foam
The Cypress Bamboo Gel mattress is offered in 11” and 13” versions. The internal composition of each is similar and features a combination of memory foam, transition foam, and support polyfoam. Specifics of the components are listed in the table below.
Mattress | Construction |
---|---|
Cypress Bamboo Gel 11” | Bamboo cellulose cover with zipper; New Zealand wool fill; 2.5” of gel-infused memory foam with density of 4 pounds per cubic foot (PCF) and indentation load deflection (ILD) of 14; 2” of Airlux polyfoam with density of 1.8 PCF and ILD of 30; 6.5” of support polyfoam |
Cypress Bamboo Gel 13" | Bamboo cellulose cover with zipper; New Zealand wool fill; 3.5” of gel-infused memory foam with density of 4 PCF and ILD of 14; 2” of Airlux polyfoam with density of 1.8 PCF and ILD of 30; 7.5” of support polyfoam |
Hybrid
Each of the hybrid mattresses features an 8” support core made with individually-wrapped innerspring coils. These coils are zoned to provide greater responsiveness in the areas of the bed that usually support heavier parts of the body. In addition, coils are reinforced around the exterior.
The other layers include polyfoam, memory foam, and or latex. The following table lists the specifications for each of the Brentwood Home hybrids.
Mattress | Construction |
---|---|
Ojai | Tencel knit cover; New Zealand wool fill; 1.5” of polyfoam with density of 4 PCF and ILD of 12; 1.5” of gel-infused memory foam with density of 4 PCF and ILD of 10; 1” of Dunlop latex with density of 4 PCF; 8” of individually-wrapped and zoned steel innerspring coils with perimeter reinforcements |
Crystal Cove | Stitched cover; 2” of Dunlop latex with a medium feel and a density of 4 PCF; 8” of individually-wrapped and zoned steel innerspring coils with perimeter reinforcements; 2” of charcoal-infused memory foam with a density of 4 PCF; 1” of polyfoam with a plush feel that has a density of 4 PCF and ILD of 12 |
Oceano | Tencel knit cover; New Zealand wool fill; 2” of gel-infused memory foam with a density of 4 PCF and ILD of 14; 2.5” of individually-wrapped microcoils; 2” of Airlux polyfoam with a density of 1.8 PCF and ILD of 30; 8” of individually-wrapped and zoned steel innerspring coils with perimeter reinforcements |
Cedar | Organic cotton cover and fiber quilting; New Zealand wool fill; 2” of Dunlop latex with a density of 4 PCF; 2” of grooved and zoned Dunlop latex with a density of 4 PCF; 8” of individually-wrapped and zoned steel innerspring coils with perimeter reinforcements; 1” of coconut husk fiber as a support layer |
A special feature of the Crystal Cove mattress is that it is certified to be 100% vegan by the organization Vegan Action. No animal products are used in the making of the mattress, and all machines are deep-cleaned to prevent cross-contamination from non-vegan materials that are used in other mattresses.
Shipping
Brentwood Home provides free shipping as an option for all of their mattresses. Shipping is only available in the contiguous United States.
Most mattresses ship via FedEx but some larger models must be delivered by another carrier. Mattresses are usually delivered in 1-2 weeks after placing an order.
Additional Services
Brentwood Home offers white glove delivery options that include in-home setup as well as old mattress removal. Delivery with setup costs $199, and delivery, setup, and haul-away of an old mattress costs $275.
If you choose white glove delivery, the mattress should arrive in 2-3 weeks.
Brentwood Home offers additional services in the form of a charitable mission. The company will match $25 donations to Relief Bed, a nonprofit organization that helps to provide mattresses to people in need such as the homeless or those affected by natural disasters.
Sleep Trial
Each Brentwood Home mattress comes with a generous 365 night sleep trial. You are required to keep the mattress for 30 days before requesting a return. After those 30 days, you have up to a full year after delivery to opt to return the bed for a full refund.
If you decide to return the mattress, the company will try to identify a local charity to accept the mattress as a donation. If that is not possible, the company will arrange for the mattress to be picked up from your home. In either case, you will pay not return shipping fees.
Warranty
A 25-year limited warranty is offered with each of the Brentwood Home mattresses. This warranty covers defects in materials and manufacturing.
During the first 10 years of the warranty, Brentwood Home will repair or replace the mattress; however, the customer is responsible for any transportation costs that arise during the warranty process.
During years 11-25 of the warranty, the company will replace a defective mattress, but the customer must pay a prorated cost and any transportation fees. In year 11, the prorated cost is 50% of the original purchase price, and this percentage rises in each subsequent year.
In years 21-25, the customer is responsible for 95% of the original purchase price along with transportation costs.
As a result, in the later years of this 25 year period, the warranty provides very limited coverage.
Brentwood Home Mattress Performance
Motion Isolation
All of the mattresses from Brentwood Home are above-average to excellent when it comes to motion isolation. Contouring from the comfort layers is effective in preventing movement from being felt on other parts of the mattress.
The softer mattresses with memory foam in the comfort layers, such as the Cypress Bamboo Gel foam mattress as well as the Oceano and Ojai hybrids, will offer the greatest amount of motion isolation.
Edge Support
The hybrid beds from Brentwood Home offer considerably more edge support than the Cypress Bamboo Gel beds. The coils in the 8” innerspring layer are reinforced around the edge, giving the mattress more edge stability.
The Crystal Cove and Cedar hybrids that have latex in the comfort layer will have even less sink at the edge thanks to the latex used near the top of the beds.
The Cypress Bamboo Gel 11” and 13” mattresses will have noticeable compression around the perimeter, but most people will still be able to effectively lie or sit at the edge of the bed without problems.
Heat Retention
Overall, most customers will not find sleeping hot to be a serious issue on the Brentwood Home mattresses.
All of the memory foam used in the Brentwood Home mattresses is gel-infused, and this is intended to combat heat retention that has long been an issue with this material. Despite the gel, memory foam can still build up heat and restrict airflow around the body at night, which may be a concern for people who have a strong tendency to sleep hot.
The hybrid models, and specifically those with latex in the comfort layer -- the Crystal Cove and Cedar mattresses -- will retain the least amount of heat of these beds.
Off-Gassing
Once you have removed the mattress from the packaging, it is normal for some smell to be emitted by the materials, especially foams. If your bedroom is well-ventilated, this smell won’t last. It should be gone within a few days and normally dissipates inside of a few hours.
Support
Each of the Brentwood Home mattresses has a thoughtfully-designed construction intended to provide proper support.
Memory foams, which are used in the comfort layers of many of the mattresses, are excellent at softening the impact at pressure points and promoting spinal alignment.
Other mattresses with latex in the comfort layer provide support through the responsiveness and resilience of latex. The resilience makes it easy to modify your sleeping position without ever feeling stuck in bed.
The hybrid models boost support through zoned coils. These coils give extra reinforcements to the parts of the body that most need it, such as the shoulders and hips. Coils are individually-wrapped to give even more tailored compression to fit your body.
The Oceano mattress employs micro-coils above the main layer of coils to further enhance this responsiveness in conjunction with the memory foam top layer.
Conforming
Conforming from the Brentwood Home mattresses ranges from moderate to significant. The beds with soft memory foam comfort layers, especially the Cypress Bamboo Gel models, will have the greatest amount of hug, while the hybrids, especially those with latex top layers, will have more modest contouring.
Durability
These mattresses feature quality materials and a high level of attention to detail in design and manufacturing that point to excellent durability of at least 6-8 years.
Foam layers use high-density materials that will have greater longevity and resist normal wear-and-tear. Latex, used in several mattresses, has a solid track record of durability, and the coils in the hybrids are reinforced in areas that will extend their useful life.
Sex
Few issues with sex are likely to arise with the Brentwood Home mattresses, especially among the hybrids. The thick innerspring coils give a base layer of bounce that makes it easier to move on top of the mattress. Latex and micro-coils in several hybrids give added boost to this bounce.
The model with the greatest risk to interrupting sex is the Cypress Bamboo Gel 11” mattress because, in some cases, memory foam has too much sink and too little rebound to permit easy movement on the mattress. However, this mattress still has enough firmness to limit excessive sinking and should be fine for most sexually active people.

Oceano Hybrid Mattress
What Type of Sleeper is Suited to the Brentwood Home Mattresses?
Finding the mattress that is the best fit for you requires considering a handful of factors. Some of these, like your comfort preferences, are things that only you can know. Other factors are more straightforward including your main sleeping position and your body weight.
In the following sections, you can find information about how the Brentwood Home mattresses may or may not work for side, back, and stomach sleepers of different body weights.
Cypress Bamboo Gel Mattress
Side Sleepers
Side sleepers have sharp pressure points at the shoulders and the hips. In this position, it’s easy to have pain at those points if a mattress is too firm. Too much or not enough cushioning of pressure points can also cause the spine to fall out of alignment.
With these needs, most side sleepers do well with medium or medium firm mattresses that have responsive qualities.
Foam
The Cypress Bamboo Gel mattress is generally good for side sleepers in both the 11” and the 13” model. These mattresses have excellent responsiveness from the foam to help cushion pressure points while having enough firmness to prevent sinking uncomfortably.
For sleepers over 230 pounds, the 13” option has a thicker comfort foam layer and is likely to deliver even better performance and durability.
Foam Mattress Performance for Side Sleepers
Under 130 lbs | 130-230 lbs | Above 230 lbs | |
---|---|---|---|
Cypress Bamboo Gel 11" | Very good | Very good | Good |
Cypress Bamboo Gel 13" | Very good | Very good | Very good |
Hybrids
The hybrids from Brentwood Home are another good choice for side sleepers as a result of the mixture of responsiveness from the coils along with the contouring of the foam.
For side sleepers over 230 pounds, the Oceano and Cedar may feel too soft, but the Ojai and Crystal Cove can both be solid options given their robust internal components.

Back Sleepers
Firmness is critical for back sleepers. If a mattress is too soft, the midsection, where people typically carry more weight, will push deeper into the bed than the rest of the body, preventing spinal alignment.
While firmness is important, back sleepers can benefit from responsiveness in a mattress as well. Moderate contouring can give extra cushion to the shoulders, lumbar spine, hips, and legs.
Foam
The Cypress Bamboo Gel 13” model is the better fit for back sleepers because of its firmer feel. The 11” model is softer, which may be workable for back sleepers under 130 pounds, but will pose issues for people above that weight.

Under 130 lbs | 130-230 lbs | Above 230 lbs | |
---|---|---|---|
Cypress Bamboo Gel 11" | Good | Fair | Poor |
Cypress Bamboo Gel 13" | Very good | Good | Good |
Hybrids
Even though they offer solid contouring, half of the hybrid mattresses from Brentwood Home are too plush for most back sleepers who weigh over 130 pounds. Back sleepers under this weight will avoid sinking too deeply into a softer mattress, but this is not the case for sleepers who weigh more.
The Crystal Cove mattress and the Ojai mattress can serve many back sleepers well. Back sleepers can use the firmer side of the Crystal Cove to have a comfortable sleep surface, although even this may be too soft for some who weigh over 230 pounds. The Ojai will be best for back sleepers under 230 pounds.

Stomach Sleepers
For stomach sleepers, a firm mattress is the way to go. Even most medium-firm mattresses are too soft for people in this position because of how easily the abdomen can bow into the bed, hyperextending the spine. Too much plushness can also cause a person on their stomach to feel as though they are being suffocated by the mattress.
For stomach sleepers with a higher body weight, this firmness is of added importance because they are more prone to sink into the mattress, exacerbating problems related to spinal alignment.
Foam
Neither of the Cypress Bamboo Gel models are great choices for stomach sleepers over 130 pounds. The beds are too soft and with too much contouring to work well for people of average or above-average body weight who prefer this sleeping position.
For people under 130 pounds who sleep on their stomach, either option may work, although the 13” model is the better choice given its slightly higher firmness level.
Foam Mattress Performance for Stomach Sleepers
Under 130 lbs | 130-230 lbs | Above 230 lbs | |
---|---|---|---|
Cypress Bamboo Gel 11" | Good | Poor | Poor |
Cypress Bamboo Gel 13" | Very good | Fair | Fair |
Hybrids
The only Brentwood Home hybrid mattress likely to be a good match for stomach sleepers is the Crystal Cove hybrid when used on its Gentle Firm side. However, for stomach sleepers over 230 pounds, the thinner latex comfort layer and overall firmness level may be insufficient to offer the needed support.
The Ojai, Cedar, and Oceano mattresses are generally too soft for the considerable majority of stomach sleepers.

Our Verdict
Brentwood Home’s mattresses are well thought out and well-executed. All of the models feature complimentary layering that can deliver excellent performance over a period of many years.
The Cypress Bamboo Gel models use high-density memory foam to contour to the body and relieve pressure points. The collection of hybrids rely on a support core of 8” thick innerspring coils supplemented by memory foam, latex, and/or micro-coils. All of these layers promote responsiveness and tailored but not excessive conforming.
For vegan customers, the Crystal Cove mattress is a rare bedding product certified to be 100% vegan, and it has a reversible firmness design that further broadens its appeal.
On top of the quality of the mattresses, Brentwood Home offers a sleep trial that lasts for a full year. While you must keep the bed for 30 nights before you can return it, having a full year to test it out is a tremendous selling point.
